Aquifer™ Field Layout Options
Growing areas are 30 feet wide unless otherwise marked.
Wobblers
Senninger Xcel Wobblers are designed to spread water across the soil surface, making them a practical choice for beds and field crops when spacing, pressure, and available flow are matched to the layout.
Wobbler specifications — Senninger Xcel Wobbler High Angle, gray #9 (9/64") nozzle. Approximate flow per head and wetted diameter measured at 1.5 ft:
- 10 psi — 1.815 gpm — 44 ft
- 15 psi — 2.2 gpm — 47.2 ft
- 20 psi — 2.54 gpm — 50.5 ft
- 25 psi — 2.84 gpm — 52.5 ft
Plan for your available water flow. At 20 psi, each Wobbler uses about 2.54 gpm. Four operating together use approximately 10.2 gpm at the sprinkler heads; the water source and mainline must also account for pressure losses. If your supply cannot support all stands at once, use watering zones or individual Aquifer Stand Shutoffs to run fewer heads at a time.
Pressure rating and regulation: Aquifer™ mainline PowerLoc fittings have a manufacturer's rated working pressure of 60 PSI. In our field experience, we have generally not seen fitting problems at pressures approaching 80 PSI. However, this observation does not increase the 60 PSI rating or mean that operating above 60 PSI is recommended. Keep the mainline at or below the rating of its lowest-rated component. If your source pressure exceeds that limit, reduce it at the water source before the mainline with a suitably rated pressure regulator (not sold by Neversink Tools). Most Aquifer Field installations do not need a separate regulator at each sprinkler stand.
Check Your Water Flow
Not sure how many gallons per minute (GPM) your water supply delivers? You can check it in about a minute with a five-gallon bucket and a stopwatch.
- Use the faucet or hose connection that will supply your Aquifer system. Open the water fully.
- Time how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket to its five-gallon mark.
- Calculate your flow: GPM = 300 ÷ seconds to fill five gallons.
Example: If the bucket fills in 30 seconds, your flow is 10 GPM. If it fills in 60 seconds, your flow is 5 GPM.
This measures the flow available at that connection under the test conditions, not the water pressure at your sprinklers while they run. Long hoses, elevation changes, fittings, and multiple running Wobblers can reduce pressure and flow at the heads. If your supply cannot support every sprinkler at once, water in smaller zones or use Aquifer Stand Shutoffs to close individual stands.
Adjustable Sprinkler Height
The Aquifer™ Field Stand Riser raises a compatible sprinkler stand by 24 inches, allowing the Wobbler to water above taller crops.
Easy to Drain
Stay Out of the Way
Designed for working farms, Aquifer™ stands have a compact footprint so you can move through paths and cultivate around the system more easily.
Durable Mainline
Heavy-duty poly mainline and serviceable fittings are built for repeated field use. Check for damaged tubing or loose connections during the season, and drain or winterize the system when freezing conditions require it.

Why Growers Choose Aquifer Overhead Irrigation
Water the Bed Surface
Aquifer™ Wobblers spread water across the bed surface, which is useful for germination and closely spaced crops. Drip irrigation concentrates water near its emitters and can be a good choice for other crops and layouts.
Flexible Watering
Designed around your beds and water supply, an Aquifer™ layout can water multiple beds from strategically placed stands. Actual watering time depends on water flow, operating pressure, sprinkler spacing, soil, and weather.
Keep Beds Accessible
Arrange stands and mainline to leave room for everyday farm work. Aquifer™ components are made for long service life, but sprinkler heads, fittings, and tubing still need periodic inspection, cleaning when necessary, and proper winterization.
