Selecting the Right Seed Roller
- If you already own a Jang JP-series seeder, use the seed-sizing gauge on the underside of the hopper lid as a starting point.
- Confirm the approximate seed size with your seed supplier, especially for pelleted seed.
- Check several seeds from your lot and size the largest seeds in the sample. If the largest seeds fit correctly, the smaller seeds generally will as well.
- Choose a roller pocket that allows one seed to sit fully in the pocket without crowding. If the seed falls between two roller sizes, test both and choose the one that gives the most consistent singulation.
- Install the roller, add seed to the hopper, and turn the hopper sprocket by hand. Check for doubles, skips, or seeds that do not seat cleanly in the roller pockets.
- Before planting a full bed, run the seeder for a short distance in prepared soil and check actual seed spacing and depth.
- If you are unsure which roller to choose, contact us. We can also help size a seed sample to the appropriate roller.
